Last Wednesday we were invited into London for a special Pizza making party with Pizza Express at their global innovation centre. Both Oscar and Archie love Pizza and were excited to make one of their own. When we arrived the boys got to decorate their very own Chef’s hat before we got cooking.
Making Pizza is a fun, quick and easy cooking activity to do with children, the boys love making them at home for dinner. Pizza Express have now launched the perfect competition for budding pizzaiolos (pizza chefs) where they can design their very own Pizza and one lucky winner’s pizza will appear on the Piccolo menu in all of the 470 pizzerias across the UK. Imagine that creating something yummy that will be enjoyed by so many other children!
The Piccolo menu has all the instructions inside on how to cook your own Pizza dough and a list of lots of yummy toppings that you can add to make your perfect Pizza. To enter you need to fill in your details and your recipe idea and pick four ingredients from a selection of 20 possibilities on the entry form online on the Pizza Express website, don’t forget to give it a groovy name too! Full terms and conditions are online too. There will be 10 semi-finalists selected from across the country and then one final winner will be chosen by a panel of experts, headed up by Jane Treasure, Food & Beverage Director at Pizza Express. The competition will run until Monday, 17 June 2019 and is open to all children under 13 years old.
Also if you cook your Pizza don’t forget to share a photo of your yummy creation on social media using the tag @PizzaExpress and the hashtag #PizzaExpress #PizzaExpresscyo for everyone to see!
The Pizza Express team were super friendly and all the children had so much fun stretching the dough into their Pizza shape, adding the Passata and then choosing from lots of toppings before popping them in the oven.
The children then played a game of stick the moustache on Paolo whilst their food cooked and the tables were laid. All of the Pizza’s looked amazing and were followed by ice-cream for dessert. All of the children had so much and I will defiantly be having a Pizza Express party in the future for one of the boys as the staff made it a really special afternoon.
As a family we visit Pizza Express often as their Piccolo menu is great. For only £7.25 you get a starter of dough balls, houmous and salad, a main with 8 yummy dishes to choose from, a dessert with 4 to choose from, a drink and a bambinoccino and an activity pack to keep the little ones busy whilst they wait. It is great value and the food is always great and its such a child friendly restaurant.
At the end of the afternoon each child was given a certificate and I was kindly given a goodie bag with colouring sheets and crayons which kept the boys entertained on the way home in the car. Thank you Pizza Express for a lovely afternoon!
Yesterday we picked up Oscar from school and drove into London to go to the Harrod’s Christmas Grotto 2017. Every year in September I eagerly await the email to let me know when I can book our visit. This year the bookings opened in October and at 9am I got my email and by 9.05 our slot was booked! When booking you pay a £10 deposit per child over 3 years old, under 2’s are free. On the day of your visit to the grotto you get your deposit back to spend on your Harrods reward card. The boys then get to choose a new decoration for the Christmas tree with it.
So we picked Oscar up from school and drove into town and parked in our usual spot. When we got to Harrods we walked around the outside and looked at all of the decorated Dolce & Gabbana windows. They were really good, and had a photo by the huge Christmas Tree. We were a bit early so we then looked around the Toy Kingdom on the third floor which is every child’s idea of heaven.
When we arrived at the grotto which is located right by the Toy Kingdom Oscar presented our ticket and then we went into a roped off area that had Christmas colouring, mini golf and other games and lots of friendly elves to play with. The boys were given green bells to look after and then when the green bells group were called we went through a red curtain into a beautiful room with a huge Christmas tree and two of Santa’s elves.
They told the children all about the magic of Christmas and every child got an ‘Official Elf’ badge and a Harrods gold chocolate coin. The elves were really friendly interacting with the boys asking them what they would like for Christmas. We were then called through to meet the big man himself and Oscar and Archie knocked on the door and Father Christmas greeted them.
He was really nice, congratulating Oscar on learning to ride his bike since he had last seen him and asked him about school and his friends. Archie wasn’t so sure to start with but within minutes was giving Father Christmas a high five and telling him he would like a blue car for Christmas. We then had our annual Christmas photo taken with him (this is our eight year at Harrods).
Oscar and Archie were then given lovely red gift bags with a Harrods teddy inside as their gift. They were over the moon. We said our goodbyes and went to view our photo, which we brought to go with all the others which was £14.50. The boys also posted their letters to Father Christmas in the special postbox outside.
We then went and brought our Harrods 2017 bear decoration (we buy one every year) and Oscar also chose another bauble. We had a great time and its just so magical and we love it! We always then walk around to Pizza Express for some dinner then drove home. Needless to say the boys were shattered by the time we got home and went straight to bed!
Yesterday we went to the Pizza Express in Watford for lunch. We had been to this particular Pizza Express countless times and have always had a great experience. We had been asked to see what we thought of the New Summer Piccolo Menu At Pizza Express, we knew it would be lovely as the boys love it there! When we arrived we were given a spacious table and the menus to browse through. They have a new Summer Piccolo Children’s menu and activity packs. Oscar is seven and always likes an activity pack in a restaurant with different puzzles, word searches and colouring on them and Archie being two loves drawing all over it and the activity packs keeps them both entertained until their lunch arrives.
The new Piccolo menu has lots of choice and you get three courses, a drink and a bambinoccino with the dessert for only £6.95. The starter is baked dough balls with cucumber and fresh, red baby plum tomatoes. For mains there are three different pasta dishes to choose from, four different types of pizza and new on the Summer menu is a Pollo salad. For dessert as I mentioned a bambinoccino is included and there is four yummy desserts to choose from.
Oscar always has the same he loves the penne Bolognese and Archie had the Margherita pizza. The portions are perfectly sized, obviously Archie always leaves a bit as he is only two but Oscar as a growing seven year old finishes the bowl of Bolognese completely. I had my all time favourite a salad nicoise. I love the Pizza Express salad dressing, thankfully you can buy it at the supermarket and I use it all the time at home. They finished their lunch off with vanilla ice-cream with a cone and chocolate sauce which also comes with a Bambinoccino.
As well as the fun-filled activity packs, with each child getting their very own chef’s hat and stickers too, Pizza Express are encouraging children aged 6-12 to unleash their creativity and be as imaginative as possible in their Dough Ball Adventure writing competition. All they have to do is submit an exciting Dough Ball adventure story (up to 200 words) via the Pizza Express website for the chance to have their stories being made into animations, as well as win weekly adventure prize. Plus one lucky winner will win an adventure holiday. Such a fantastic competition and educational too! Oscar has already started writing his dough ball story about them going on holiday to visit their family in Italy.
The staff in the Watford branch were really lovely as always and even though they were super busy we didn’t have to wait for a table and our food came nice and quickly. We will be back many times over the Summer holidays! For a great priced, relaxing lunch head to Pizza Express with the kids this Summer! And don’t forget to enter the competition!
