Oscar turned 10 back in February. Every year since he was three he has had a big party with 20-30 friends but as he is getting older now he chose to do something smaller with a few friends. He toyed between Putt Shack, going to see a show at the theatre and go karting but finally asked if he could have a muddy boots sleepover instead. We had never had a sleepover here before for him and his friends and I wasn’t sure as I knew there would be little sleep involved!
We finally agreed and Oscar chose that he wanted a Fortnite themed party and birthday cake. I looked online for some ideas, Instagram and Pinterest were great for this! I found printables for water bottles and went on Amazon.com rather than .uk which had a much larger range of Fortnite party accessories and I had them shipped here. I managed to find a cardboard drop box and then added a giant yellow balloon to it, mini pinata llamas and squishy boogie bombs.
When Oscar decided he wanted a sleepover I contacted Dee at Muddy Boots Sleepovers who has a variety of different themed sleepover packages. They come and set up luxury teepees for each child and decorate too. You can purchase party bags from them and balloon clouds as well at an extra cost. For the four teepees with the Fortnite theme for one night was £198. Extra teepees are £44 each. Set up and the tidy up the next day was really quick and professional and we will using them again 100%!
Etsy was also great for picking up bits and pieces. I ordered each of the boys a Fortnite personalised water bottle and a bag for all their bits and pieces.
I got them each a Fortnite Llama cuddly toy from Smyths and Playstation pyjamas from Next.
One of my friends Cathy makes the most wonderful biscuits and made some lovely V-Bucks in individual bags for the boys, for their midnight feast. You can find her on instagram HERE.
Nonna Mariangela made Oscar an amazing Fortnite cake with hand crafted decorations on top. She is just amazing, if you send her a photo of a cake to make she will make it and make it better than the original! You can find her on instagram HERE.
When the boys arrived they loved the set up and we ordered Domino’s for them for dinner and then they got into their pyjamas to watch a film complete with pic ‘n’ mix and popcorn, played snooker and then chatted well into the early hours before crashing out. Everyone had a lovely time and Oscar was so pleased with his party. Needless to say I was shattered the following day as was a very moody Oscar but nothing an early night didn’t sort.
Last week Oscar was 8! I don’t know how it is possible, the years have just flown by, its so scary. We had such a fun jam packed week and I always love to make such a big deal out of the boys birthdays! After all they are only little for short amount of time.
Last Wednesday we kicked off his birthday with a surprise trip to the theatre to see the Lion King. he was so excited when we arrived outside as he has wanted to see it for ages. the show was absolutely amazing, the best I have ever been too. The costumes were out of this World. We were also really lucky to book amazing isle seats, five rows back from the stage. Our view was amazing.
Thursday morning Oscar ran into our room so excited for his birthday! We went downstairs for breakfast and so that he could open his presents and cards. This year he asked for a hover board with the go kart extension kit which is absolutely amazing and I love going on it too. He also got Minecraft Lego and some Nintendo Switch games.
After school we went to Prezzo for dinner as it’s Oscar’s favourite restaurant with my Brother and our friends.
On Saturday we had his party with his friends at Hollywood Bowl in Watford. We’ve never had a bowling party before and as it’s something both the boys love, so we thought it would be a good idea. I was actually quite surprised at how reasonably priced it is compared to some of the other parties we’ve had over the years. 23 children to bowl and eat it was about £260. He had great fun and he was so lucky to get so many lovely gifts.
We did tell Oscar last year that that was the last ‘big’ party he would have and we would take a few friends out and then do something special like go to the theatre but somehow he’s managed to wangle a party and the Lion King!
On Sunday afternoon we then had all the family over for tea and cake. We had a lovely Minecraft cake from Wenzels which tasted amazing! Oscar loved getting everyone on the hover board!
Oscar has had an amazing birthday! The countdown is on until mine now next week, where I will turn 30!
I LOVE Christmas! Everything about it, from the tree, to our annual visit to Harrods to see Father Christmas to hosting Christmas Day itself. It just truly is the most wonderful time of the year! The boys are super excited and as its our first Christmas in our new house so I want to make it our best Christmas yet!
Oscar is 7 almost 8 and his Christmas list this year contains a Nintendo Switch with the Mario Kart 8 game. He has wanted one since they were first released and loves playing Mario Kart on his handheld Nintendo DS. The difference with the Nintendo Switch is that you can use it as a handheld when out and about but use it as a proper games console when at home. We brought it off Amazon in the grey rather than the neon blue/red version for £279 and the Mario Kart 8 game for £41.99.
Next on his list is a Drone with a camera and he wanted a camera that recorded as well. I really want one too so will be borrowing Oscar’s to make videos. I searched around and ended up getting the Sky Viper V2450HD Streaming Video Drone from Tesco Direct it was £120. It is only £69.99 at the moment on Amazon which is a great deal!
Next on his list is the complete collection of the new Lego City Jungle range. Including the starter set there are 7 sets to collect, he has the smaller two already. We have got him the main set which is the Jungle Exploration Site which is £84.99 and the other sets have been distributed among the family.
Oscar loves using my Apple watch and Kurio have a child friendly version of their own. The Kurio C17515 Children’s Blue Smartwatch 2.0 Plus is the Ultimate Smartwatch for kids! Personalise your watch with 2 x interchangeable coloured watch straps to match your style. Watch Pebble pops into an all-in-one strap and offers a splash proof and scratch resistant screen. Pre-loaded with 20 apps, a multi-function screen, camera/video, photo filters, messaging, media player, activity tracker, phrase translator and can also operate as a hands-free kit for a Smartphone when connected via Bluetooth. Boasts 256mb of internal memory and expandable storage upto 32GB. Includes one regular strap and one colour changing Thermal strap. I know he will love this!
Next up is the Playmobil Ghostbusters range. The toys look really great and Oscar has watched quite a few episodes of Ghostbusters now. I know Archie will like these toys too so it will be something they can play with nicely together. It looks really cool. There are six sets to collect ranging from £5.99 to £59.99. I love the Marshmallow man.
I hope this list has given you a few good ideas!
Oscar got so many amazing presents for his birthday but one of his favourites was his new Clangers Home Planet play set which he got from his great-auntie and he also got the extra play sets to go with it. I used to love Clangers when I was younger and love that Oscar now watches and loves it too!
The Home Planet play set comes with Granny Clanger and has lots of different features. You can press the button and see Soup Dragon pop up, lift up the dustbin lid and there’s a secret slide and the Telescope can be put in different locations. You can also swing Granny on the hammock. The other play sets available all go with the Home Planet and can be all used together.
Smyths Toys currently have all the Clangers Toys in their clearance sale at amazing prices. I picked up the Home Planet for £10 instead of £25 and the family pack of figures for only £2 instead of £9.99. So I have brought an extra set as I thought they would be a great toy to giveaway. So to enter to win The Clangers Home Planet play set and the family figure pack enter below. Good Luck!

Today Oscar is 6! Where has the time gone?! This time six years ago I was laying in a hospital bed after a three day labour and then a emergency c-section in shock with how much I had instantly fallen in love with our little boy and we couldn’t wait to get him home. It only seems like yesterday!
Oscar has had a jam packed birthday weekend. On Saturday he had his birthday party with 29 of his friends and we had the amazing Captain Calamity who is just then most amazing children’s entertainer and kept the kids focused and amazed for almost two hours! For the first hour he performed Magic, Balloon Twisting, Interactive games, Action Dances, Scorcher The Dragon Puppet Show and so much more. We then sang Oscar ‘Happy Birthday’ and the children went through the tea time tunnel to lunch.
After lunch Captain Calamity did another half an hour of the party with the most amazing Bubble Performance, set to music, culminating in a giant bubble which Oscar was inside and Daddy even got inside too. Captain Calamity is worth every penny and I couldn’t recommend him any higher, he is fantastic. Oscar loves Paw Patrol, so I had a cake made and then in the personalised party bags each child had a Paw Patrol book and action figure.
Yesterday we went to Prezzo for a pre birthday lunch as it is Oscar’s favourite restaurant. We then had family over for a few hours in the afternoon for another birthday cake and he got to open some presents from family. He has been so good and saved all his presents from his party to open later on today after school. He was very lucky and got some amazing presents from his Nannys and Grandads, Aunties and Uncles. Oscar got a new Maxi micro scooter, lots of playmobil, books, clothes, chocolate and toy story toys.
So Oscar is now 6 and we are so proud of the gorgeous, sweet little man he has become. He is a very caring big brother to Archie and is so incredibly patient with him. This year he has thrown himself in to lots of sporting activities after school and now does Tae-Kwon-Do, Trampolining, Football and Swimming. He also recently joined Beavers which he absolutely loves and can’t wait to go on a camp in the Summer. Since his last birthday he has seemed to grow up so much. Some of the things he comes out with makes me double take sometimes and pause to think where has my baby gone? Last month for instance he asked me for a red colouring pen, I gave him one and he said “Um no Mummy, that is Magenta, I asked for Red.” He was deadly serious and all I wanted to do was giggle but just changed the pen over for him instead. He is fascinated by the World and animals and asks 100’s of questions… thank God for Google so I can check the answers I am not sure on!
We are so proud of our little man! Happy Birthday Oscar! xxxxx
Today, the 3rd September 2014 is Oscar’s first day in reception. It is not technically his first day at ‘big boy’ school as he attended the nursery at York House School last year. He is so excited to be going back to school and see all his friends and it makes me so happy to see how excited he is and how much he loves his school! In the nursery last year he only did two and a half days as I wasn’t ready to put him in full time and wanted to make the most of being able to spend time with him. I can’t believe how this day has come around so fast as it only seems like yesterday that he was born. Children really do grow up way to fast!
I am really anxious about him being at school full time but only for selfish reasons as I still want him at home with me. I know that I will have a new baby to look after in December but I still can’t help feeling that this is the end of him being little and he is now off on a new stage of his life in full time education. We are lucky that Oscar gets really long holidays off school, this Summer holiday was nine weeks so when the holidays come around we will have lot’s of time to do fun things together still.
I have made lists of things that I need to get done whilst he is at school and with the baby due at Christmas I want everything baby and Christmas related organised by the middle of November. So here is a little pic of Oscar in his uniform as proudly heads off to school! I couldn’t be prouder of the amazing little man he has turned out to be.
This week I am lucky enough to be receiving two pretty green boxes from my1styears.com! So far one has arrived and Oscar immediately knew the contents were for him as he recognised the box from when we reviewed the personalised wooden dinosaur last year. He excitedly ripped open the tissue paper to find a beautiful personalised wooden abacus with brightly coloured pieces. I was really impressed, it looks great and would make a great gift that someone will treasure forever. Oscar is already on his Easter school holidays so the abacus allows us to practice his counting whilst having fun!
The personalised wooden abacus is only £18.99 and all orders come in their gorgeous gift boxes free of charge. It is really well made and sturdy for little hands and the personalisation is stamped in perfectly. The quality has always been great with anything I have ordered from My1stYears.com and I have always been really pleased.
My1styears.com sells a huge range of personalised gifts. Their unique Christening gifts range is beautiful and you will find something truly special to give the baby being christened something that can be personalised and treasured forever at an amazing price. Here are my favourites:
My Cousin and his Wife Claire are having their first baby which is due this month. I have been looking to buy the baby something special so when I saw the personalised baby blankets range from My1stYears.com I knew exactly what I would be buying as soon as I saw them. I will be ordering one as the baby is born and we find out what it is!! (I’m betting on a Boy!)
The delivery is always quick so if your panicking that you only have a few days to get a gift you can always rely on My1stYears.com to bail you out!

It doesn’t seem possible that this September our little man will start pre school. The time has just flown by! It only seems like yesterday that we brought him home from the hospital and he seemed so tiny and fragile.
I remember with Oscar waiting for him to crawl, walk and talk, but now I only wish it all went slower!
It just seems strange that our little man will look so grown up in his uniform in September. I’m sure he will love “Big Boy School” as he loves going to nursery for two mornings a week now, it’s me that feels anxious as I will never get the time back to have him at home all the time. I don’t know what I will do with myself!!
It’s part of growing up for Oscar!! I remember being told when Oscar was born that your children are only really lent to you, once they start school and do extra curricular activities after school the years just fly by!! I wish I could just keep him little for a few more years before school!! Sad as it sounds.
Who else felt like this when their little ones started school?
Welcome to the world!! 22.02.2010
Oscar’s first birthday!!
This year we just couldn’t decide on what to do for Oscar’s third birthday party. We wanted something that catered for ages 1-10 and then we came across www.bouncy-castle/partiesatbreakspere/
We booked the venue and when it came around to party day all we had to do was turn up with the food which you have a room to have the party food and cake in afterwards. They supply a supervisor and for a small fee (£16) you can have another member of staff to watch the trampoline.
It is so reasonably priced and for your money you get a trampoline, an Urban 2 lane bungee run, a inflated Urban skate park with slide and a high rural mega slide multi play inflatable. There is also a soft play room for the really little ones.
Also for an extra £10 they can supply teas, coffees and hot chocolate for the adults.
You can have up to 30 children for only £175 for an hour and fifteen minutes play time and forty five minutes food time.
I organise my own food and party bags but they do offer a service to do this all for you.
All the children had a fab time and I couldn’t recommend abbots parties higher!! The staff were lovely and friendly and it was a great stress free afternoon.
You can contact them on 01923 270980 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
They also offer garden hire of their inflatables.
