My Top Christmas Advent Calendars For Kids 2018

With less than one hundred days until Christmas (95 to be precise) and the shops filling up with all their Christmas decorations, I have already started my planning for the festive season. Next week I can book our annual trip to Harrod’s Christmas Grotto and slots are already open with Pines and Needles to book your Christmas Tree delivery, so the planning starts now!

I have been looking at Advent Calendars for both Oscar and Archie. They both get a chocolate calendar and a toy advent calendar. Last year they had a Playmobil one and a Lego one, which they loved!

This year there are so many great advent calendars on the market to choose from but here are my favourites;

This one we will be getting for Oscar as he is Smiggle obsessed. It is £25 and has £40+ worth of goodies inside. If you find one of the 25 lucky tickets hidden inside the Calendars you can win a £500 Smiggle shopping spree! These flew off the shelves last year so your best to buy it now and hide it away.

For Archie this Christmas we have got the Schleich 97702 – Wild Life Advent Calendar 2018. He loves animals and whenever we go to the toy shop he always chooses another Schleich animal to add to his growing collection. It is £24.99 And features 24 compartments containing gifts of Schleich Wildlife toys and accessories. He will love it!

LEGO 60155 City Advent Calendar 2017 Construction Toy. Lego sell a variety of different advent calendars all with 24 gifts inside. We had a Lego one last Christmas and Oscar loved it! They start at around £20.

For the creative children Play-Doh and Crayola have a fantastic advent calendar this year. The Crayola 04-6808-U-000 Christmas Advent Calendar Kit is Packed with craft projects, homemade gifts, finger puppets, and colouring activities, this set helps kids get into the spirit of Christmas. It is £19.99. The  Play-Doh Advent Calendar is £15 and features 24 hidden surprises. The calendar comes with several small pots of Play-Doh including two glittering colours for a festive touch, with a new addition/accessory to discover every day.

Playmobil Advent Calendar Santas Workshop. Playmobil also sell a variety of advent calendars.Oscar has had this one before and over the 24 days you build up a Santa’s workshop play scene. It’s a really lovely calendar! It is £19.99 and has 106 pieces inside.

This advent calendar would have been my dream as a child! The Barbie advent calendar is £35.00. In the Barbie Advent Calendar as well as Barbie herself over the 24 days it includes everything she needs to be a ballerina, baker, ice skater, pet vet and professional skier. It helps kids to understand different careers while living the magic of opening a present each day! I love this one!

This is the perfect advent calendar for your little car lover! It is around £19.99 and Contains 8 different Hot Wheels vehicles, plus stickers and surprise accessories.  Hot Wheels Advent Calendar with Mini Cars Toy Mattel

The Happyland advent calendar is perfect for the younger children from 18 months. It is £25 and as you can see comes with lots of toys inside to make up the Christmas play set. It’s very cute!

So these are my advent favourites for Christmas 2018! I hope you enjoyed the post and maybe have got some inspiration for your little one’s calendar this year. Expect lot’s of Christmas posts coming your way soon!

Our Day At Legoland To See The New LEGO Scooby Doo Blowout Beach Bash Movie

Yesterday we were invited to Legoland Windsor for the screening of the new Lego Movie; Scooby Doo Blowout Beach Bash. It is the brand new film from Warner Brothers Home Entertainment and is available on DVD and to download now.

Once we got to Legoland we headed to the 4D cinema in the imagiantion centre and sat down to watch the film. The cinema there is great, it’s really laid back and it didn’t matter if Archie wandered around a bit. Oscar always loves the Lego films and the computer animation is just brilliant. They get it right every time! The Scooby Doo Blowout Beach Bash is a fun, comical and spooky film where Scooby-Doo and his pals Fred, Daphne, Velma and Shaggy are on their way to have fun at the annual Blowout Beach party. It is three days of fun, dancing, singing, partying and food. Once they arrive at their hotel they realise the whole town is deserted and soon learn from the hotel owners that the ghost pirates have scared all the partying teens away. So now there three-day break has turned into a mystery solving break instead, much to Scooby and Shaggy’s disappointment. So it’s up to Scooby and the gang to solve the mystery and get the party back up and running. Obviously with a few twists and turns on the way! I won’t let on anymore as I don’t want to ruin it for you. The Blu-Ray DVD is £7.99 and to download on Sky Store to rent in HD is £5.49, or buy and keep is £13.99. We already downloaded it as soon as we got home as Oscar wanted to watch it again!

After the viewing we then went off around the park to go on the rides. We had fast track passes which was absolutely fantastic as we got to go on all the rides we wanted to without queuing once. In the future we decided we will always purchase these as it makes the day so much more enjoyable without queuing for ages with excitable children! We have been to Legoland lots of times but this was the first time that Archie (now 2) was tall enough to go on most of the rides and he really enjoyed himself.

We followed the map, until I realised there was an app to download which was much easier to use and check off which rides we had been on. Firstly we went on Sky Rider, Archie got so excited waving at everybody as we travelled 20 feet above everyone. You get a great view of the whole of Legoland. Then the space tower  by the imagination centre.

We made our way down to Duplo Valley which is fantastic for the younger children. If the weather is nice there is a fantastic splash park ‘Splash Safari’, some children were on it and were having a great time. In Duplo Valley we went on fairy tale brook, raft river racers and the Duplo valley airport. There is also a fantastic playground, Brickville soft play area and the Duplo theatre where they put on puppet shows.

We then walked to Lego City, where Oscar went on the driving school, we all went on coastguard HQ, balloon school and the fire academy. Archie was just a little to young to go on the L-Drivers but when he is three he can go on it.

We then ventured down to adventure land where we went on the Atlantis submarine voyage. It’s a really good ride and both the boys loved being ‘under the sea’ searching for the ancient ruins whilst lots of different fishes and sharks passed us by. Afterwards you walk out through a little aquarium.

We the went at got some lunch at the Pirate’s burger kitchen. There are lots of different places to eat around the park, four quick service restaurants like the one we went to, two A la carte restaurants, two buffet restaurants, three grab and go restaurants and then plenty of snack and coffee shops. There are also lots of picnic areas if you want to bring your own food with you.

After lunch we stayed in Pirate Falls and Oscar panned for gold and got a medal. Oscar and Daddy then went on the Pirate Falls: Treasure Quest log flume, they got absolutely soaked! I had to buy the photo as Oscar’s face is absolutely hilarious. When they got off the ride they were literally dripping wet. For £2 you can use the drying machine which warmed them up and dried them off a bit. I was glad I had to skip that ride and wait with Archie!

As they were already soaked we walked to the Land of the Vikings and they went on the Viking’s river splash. They didn’t actually get that wet and Oscar loved this ride.

Oscar had been desperate to visit the Ninjago World which is new for 2017 since it had opened. When we got there the Ninjago building is really impressive. All four of us could go on this ride and you wear 4D glasses and it is a 4D interactive game where all of your ninja skills will be put to the test as you battle through ice, wind and fire with the Ninjago heroes. It got a bet competitive (haha) and of course I won with a score of 134,750. I was absolutely knackered afterwards as you are constantly jabbing for about three minutes!

We then went on the Heartlake City Express train where I got soaked this time, I sat on the wrong side of the carriage! I will know for next time! We then watched the Lego Friends to the rescue show as we had an ice-cream before we looked around miniland then made our way home.

We had an absolutely fantastic day and we can’t wait to go back!

My Lego Batman Movie Favourite Merchandise

After going to the Lego Batman Movie premiere a couple of weeks ago and only one more sleep until it is released in the cinemas here in the U.K. (eek! and yes we will be going to see it again) I thought I would share with you some of My Lego Batman Movie Favourite Merchandise to go with the film.

Obviously there are the Lego sets and Oscar has been so lucky and has been given the Joker Balloon Escape set (70900) and The Batmobile (70905) which he is in the middle of building but the rest of the sets available have ended up on his birthday list as it’s less than 2 weeks away! Our review will go live over the next few days…

The sets themselves are amazing and we are also collecting the Lego Batman mini figures which are only £2.99 and literally every evening after school he sits building and playing with them. I also brought a huge blue Lego storage brick from John Lewis which is just fantastic. It is massive and can hold his Lego and keep his models safe too away from Archie trying to get at them. We have also brought him the Batcave Break In Set (70909) for his birthday but sssh don’t tell him!

The Lego Batman Movie Minifigure clock by Clic Time are great and Oscar has the Batman edition and it also comes in Robin, Batgirl, The Joker and Harley Quinn. Oscar keeps his near his bed and we have set the daily alarm for 7am but you can activate the snooze function by pushing down on the figures head. It also has a backlight function so Oscar can check the time in the dark. Also in the collection are matching watches which would make great gift and at the moment if you buy a lego clock and watch bundle you can save up to 20%!

The party range from Amscan UK is going to be very popular this year. Once your kids watch the film they will be Lego Batman obsessed like Oscar and will want a matching themed party. With foil balloons, birthday cards and invitations, table cloths, plates, cups, napkins and much more they have everything to throw the perfect Lego Batman party.

Now Oscar is almost 7 he is really into his books and his reading has come on so much in the last year. When we went to the premiere he was given ‘Batman’s Guide To Being Cool‘ by Scholastic which he has really enjoyed reading and is a fun manual to discover your inner cool. It is a fun and light hearted read with lots of nice pictures. I have brought an extra copy for his friend who’s birthday party is next week. We were also given the ‘Lego Batman Movie Ultimate Movie Guide’ by DK Books where inside you can find all the pictures and information on the respective Lego sets and mini figures and everything you need to know about the movie and all of the characters.

I also brought Oscar the Lego Batman torch and matching key ring which he has attached to his school bag and a t-shirt from Next which he wore to watch the movie.

We loved the movie and we love the lego sets and everything that Lego Batman related! The movie is a must see so don’t miss it. You can read my full movie review HERE.

The Lego Batman Movie Premiere

Last Saturday Oscar and I were lucky enough to be invited to The Lego Batman Movie Premiere at the Imax cinema in Leicester Square. I brought Oscar a Lego Batman T-shirt and a special torch figure and surprised him with where we were going. He was SO excited and the whole way in to London was smiling from ear to ear.

We parked in London and walked around to Leicester Square and got our special VIP ticket and Oscar met some of the Lego Batman characters; Batman himself and Batgirl. When we got inside we had an hour of Lego themed fun in the foyer and the excitement in the room was immense, not only from the children but us adults too.

Oscar and I had a photo together on the green screen, built lego models, snacked on lego themed biscuits and had the most amazing Batman and Batgirl caricatures drawn of us which are fantastic and have pride of place in Oscar’s bedroom.

We were then told to take our seats. As we walked into the cinema I have never seen a screen so big, it is absolutely huge! We met Emma (www.methemanandthebaby.co.uk) and Jim (www.onedadoneblog.com) in the foyer who were very excited as they are Lego fanatics and we all sat together. I also met Danielle (blogbybaby.com) and her lovely son who knows more about Lego than anyone I have ever met!

The Movie

The Lego Batman Movie is absolutely fantastic. As well as entertaining the kids it had jokes throughout for the adults and was funny from start to finish. The story of the film was great too. It is great fun and tells the story of how Batman doesn’t do relationships after his parents died when he was a child and he has been brought up by Alfred the butler. Joker wants to be his most hated villain but when Batman announces he isn’t bothered by him in their first battle Joker seems upset that ‘there is no him and Batman’ and conjures a plan on how to get Batman’s attention.

On top of this the new police commissioner is appointed, Barbara Gordon and she announces her new plans to work with Batman as he’s not really needed or actually that successful at defeating crime as Gotham City is still the most crime-ridden city in the World. A stunned Batman cannot believe his ears and inadvertently adopted a orphan called Dick when he wasn’t paying any attention to what he was talking to him about.

Dick then arrives at Wayne Manor who at first is a hinderance to Batman and tells Alfred to send him back but when he needs to go and steal the phantom gun from Superman’s Ice Palace to send the Joker to the Phantom Zone, where criminals are locked away in the sky outside of the Gotham City Law he realises the Dick can help him as he is much smaller and nimble.

Dick chooses his very own superhero outfit and suddenly Robin is born! Batman sends Joker to the Phantom Zone but it was Joker’s plan all along who then released all the the criminals back down to Gotham City to prove to Batman he is the greatest and most feared villain. Barbara Gordon the police commissioner becomes Batgirl, with Dick as Robin and even Alfred in full superhero attire they begin to fight back together, proving that Batman can have relationships and doesn’t have to work alone.

Batman tricks them all and tries to go back to fight alone but ends up in the Phantom Zone himself. He comes back to Gotham City on the promise to return all of the criminals back to the Phantom Zone. He works in a team, not alone and saves Gotham City! At the end of the film he admits to the Joker, that he hates him and they have a ‘moment’ between them which is funny!

The film is really good and has something in it for the whole family. There is humour throughout and both Oscar and I really enjoyed it. In fact he is going again so Daddy can watch it with him too.

After the movie we went to Planet Hollywood for a Lego themed lunch where the kids had great fun building their new minifigures and they were each given a huge goodie bag. We had a lovely time and Norton PR put on a fantastic lunch for us!

With the release of the new film there are some fantastic new Lego Batman sets available as well as other great merchandise.

The Lego Batman Movie is released in UK cinemas on 10 February.

We attended the Lego Batman Movie Premiere as a VIP guest and were given tickets and Oscar was given a goodie bag. All opinions of the film are honest and my own and it is fantastic. Don’t miss it!
