Our 2018 Adventures

January

January always starts slow, after all we are recovering from a hectic Christmas, Archie’s birthday and the New Year! Oscar went back to school on the 8th and straight away had Rugby and Cross-Country fixtures. At school he was learning about Egyptians so we took a trip into London to visit the British Museum.

February

Oscar took part in a lovely concert at the O2 called Young Voices. He spent the day there rehearsing and then we went up in the evening to watch him, it was great! We went to Woburn the following weekend as the boys love it there, driving through the animals. As a surprise for Oscar’s birthday we took him into London to see the Lion King. It was one of the best shows I have ever seen and can’t wait to go and see it again with Archie when he gets a bit older. Oscar had a great 8th Birthday, we had family around on his birthday to celebrate and he had a bowling party with his friends as well.

March

This month I turned 30! We celebrated in style with a lovely meal with my family at the Grove, A Willy Wonka themed afternoon tea at One Aldwych with my lovely friends and the little ones, a fabulous night out at MNKY HSE with even more birthday cake with the girls and a lovely dinner at our friends house. I was thoroughly spoilt and had the best birthday!

We also took another trip to Woburn with my friend Georgina who had never been before. Archie had lots of fun!

April

April was a seriously busy month. We did so much! We visited Willows Farm as they had their Easter programme running with our friends. The Easter holidays were in full swing and we went into London to the Shrek’s adventure which was great fun and then spent the rest of the day in town.

We had a lovely Easter surrounded by family and friends and the boys ate way to much chocolate!

We stayed a night at Alton Towers in the enchanted village and spent two days in the park. Archie loved Cbeebies land and the park was pretty quiet so we went on loads of the rides.

We visited Zippo’s Circus which was in London and we had never taken the boys to the circus before. They were so excited and loved all of the acts.

Paradise Wildlife park opened their new World of Dinosaurs feature. We went on quite a rainy day but that was fine as the park was quiet and we got to see all of the animals up close. Oscar loved the new Dinosaur park.

May

Oscar had his first ever one night residential with the school this month. To say I was anxious is an understatement but he had the best time and enjoyed himself so much!

We took the boys to Cardiff to watch Monster Jam which is a great show that comes over once a year from America and the Monster Trucks have races and do tricks. It was SO noisy!

Oscar went to Twickenham for the first time to watch the Rugby with his Godfather and his two boys. As he had started playing it at school he really enjoyed it and had a really special day out with Uncle Matt.

We went away for a few days to Lulworth Cove in Dorset. We went to Durdledoor beach was is beautiful and then to Monkey World as well. Greg and I went to Monkey World years ago but had never been with the boys. It is such a lovely place and we got to see all of the Monkey’s so close up.

June

In June we went to Go Ape with some friends and Greg went up with Oscar. Archie and I stayed firmly on the ground! We visited the Warner Bros Studio Tour with my friend Claire and her son. We are so lucky to have this only ten minutes from us. Oscar had sports day and won the high jump, relay and the 50m.

We took Daddy to Bond In Motion in London. Oscar loves the Bond films and seeing all of the cars, boats and bikes used in the films was great fun! Its such a great exhibition and if you are a Bond fan you must visit.

July

Schools out! Oscar broke up from school at the beginning of July. We went on holiday for a couple of weeks to Rhodes. We stayed at the brand new Sensatori hotel which was lovely. We have stayed at a few of these now and always have a lovely time.

We went to Westfield, London to KidZania with my friend Claire and her son. I couldn’t get over how big it was and it must be so magical being a kid going to somewhere like that. It is a fantastic day out.

On the last weekend of July my Brother got married. Oscar and Archie were both page boys and it was a lovely day.

August

We went back to Woburn safari park again with the boys Great Auntie Liz. They love it here, I think this is our 3rd trip this year so far.

We went to Regents Park open air theatre to watch the stage show ‘Dinosaur World Live’. Oscar and Archie love Dinosaurs and really enjoyed the show.

Oscar learnt to finally ride his bike this month. He briefly learnt last year but wasn’t very interested but gave it his all and picked it up in no time at all. We are so proud of him!

We went away for the night to Southampton and stayed at the Grand Harbour hotel and on the second day we went to Peppa Pig World/Paulton’s Park. We went a few years ago when Oscar was younger but as Archie loves Peppa Pig we knew he would love it. Oscar went on the bigger rides in Paulton’s Park and we had a great day.

We went to Henley-On-Thames with Oscar’s friends from school for a night glamping in a bell tent. Just Oscar and I went, Archie stayed at home with Daddy. The kids all had so much fun as did the Mummy’s.

To end off the Summer break we went to the London Aquarium with my parents. We went on a behind the scenes tour of the aquarium which was really educational and we all had a great day. Finishing off with our favourite restaurant for lunch; Honest Burger. I have lost count of how many times we have been to one of these over the last year!

September

Oscar went back to school into year 4 and Archie started Nursery at the same school. It was so emotional for me and my anxiety went through the roof. Archie only goes three mornings a week but settled in straight away and absolutely loves it!

We were invited by Subway to an amazing NFL event on Piccadilly. Oscar ended up in the NFL live show and we had such a fun day out. The NFL is such a fun, family based sport and the atmosphere was fantastic.

We spent the day at London Zoo where we hadn’t visited for a while. There were new attractions in the zoo which was nice for us to see and the Zoo is always a winner with the boys as they both love animals so much!

Oscar and Greg also took on Liquid Leisure which is a giant inflatable park on a lake near Windsor. It looked like great fun and I am going to have a go next time.

October

My Mum turned 60 and we had a lovely family get together at my Nanny’s house and then a meal out too.

I had booked Greg a car driving experience at Christmas so we headed to Loughborough where he got to drive a 1970’s Transam which is Oscar’s favourite car and a Mustang.

During half term we went to Go Ape Nets Kingdom which was fun and Archie could join in too. We went to Greenwich where we went on the Cutty Sark which is a really fun yet educational day out. We went to the theatre to see Baby Bum Live for Archie and went to the new Rock Up climbing place in Watford.

November

In November Oscar took part in a big Taekwondo competition which he did really well in. We went to a great event with Zoggs to Coral Reef in Bracknell where we had the pool and water slides to ourselves with some other bloggers. It is the best pool in the UK we’ve been to by far.

Excitingly for me I managed to get Spice Girl tickets for next year! I literally sat online with every device running until we managed to get four. I cannot wait! That afternoon we met our friends in St Albans and went to Prime for lunch and then to the theatre to watch Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. It was a fantastic show and the kids loved the flying car.

We went to the Warner Bros Studio Tour to its annual Hogwarts In The Snow event. It is such  magical experience and really kicked off the Christmas period for us.

I took Archie and my friend her little boy who is Archie’s bestie into London to see the Room On The Broom stage show which they both loved and we headed into Oxford Street and got our own personalised family Quality Street tin.

December

December was by far my favourite and most hectic month this year! The boys woke up on the 1st to their naughty elves returning with their advent calendars and the decorations up in the house.

Oscar took part in the annual TKD Taekwondo championships and got a silver medal in his patterns and a gold in sparring. He was over the moon!

Archie had his first little Christmas performance in his nursery class and I had fun wreath making with my friends.

We went into London for our annual Christmas tradition to visit Father Christmas at Harrods. We have done this for seven years now and I love getting our annual photograph. It shows how quickly the boys are growing up when you look back at the previous years.

We went to the Watersmeet Theatre In Rickmansworth to watch the pantomime; Snow White and we had never been before as Oscar had always gone with his school. Archie loved it and danced in the aisle from start to finish. It was a great production and something we will do every Christmas with them now.

I went to Willow’s Farm with Archie and my friend and her children to their Santa Spectacular. Willow’s is always a fantastic day out and they put so much on at Christmas!

The Coca-Cola Christmas lorry was touring the UK and was at an ASDA nearby so I took the boys after school to see it. The Coca-Cola Christmas lorry always reminds me of being a child and when you heard the advent on TV you knew it was Christmas time.

Oscar and Archie broke up from school on the 14th after a lovely carol service at the local Church.

On the Saturday we drove to Gatwick and the boys had no idea where we were going. That evening we told them we were flying to Lapland in Finland the next day to see Father Christmas. I have never seen them both so excited, they couldn’t believe it. It was the most magical trip ever! We went on a reindeer and a husky sledge ride, met the big man himself, went sledging and played in the snow, went on a snowmobile, crossed the arctic circle and visited Santa’s Village. It was a trip I am sure they will remember forever!

Last week we also drove over to Bruges on the Eurotunnel which was a lovely couple of days exploring such a beautiful city especially at Christmas time and eating way to much chocolate!

Then we came home to a wonderful Christmas with our family and friends and the boys had a fantastic time.

Last but not least Archie turned 4 on the 29th. We had a fun filled day with bowling, Prezzo’s and a Paddington bear tea party with family and friends.

It’s been a fantastic year and a big thank you to all of you who come back and read my blog posts! Wishing you all a happy and healthy 2019! Happy New Year!

Oscar’s 8th Birthday

Last week Oscar was 8! I don’t know how it is possible, the years have just flown by, its so scary. We had such a fun jam packed week and I always love to make such a big deal out of the boys birthdays! After all they are only little for short amount of time.

Last Wednesday we kicked off his birthday with a surprise trip to the theatre to see the Lion King. he was so excited when we arrived outside as he has wanted to see it for ages. the show was absolutely amazing, the best I have ever been too. The costumes were out of this World. We were also really lucky to book amazing isle seats, five rows back from the stage. Our view was amazing.

Thursday morning Oscar ran into our room so excited for his birthday! We went downstairs for breakfast and so that he could open his presents and cards. This year he asked for a hover board with the go kart extension kit which is absolutely amazing and I love going on it too. He also got Minecraft Lego and some Nintendo Switch games.

After school we went to Prezzo for dinner as it’s Oscar’s favourite restaurant with my Brother and our friends.

On Saturday we had his party with his friends at Hollywood Bowl in Watford. We’ve never had a bowling party before and as it’s something both the boys love, so we thought it would be a good idea. I was actually quite surprised at how reasonably priced it is compared to some of the other parties we’ve had over the years. 23 children to bowl and eat it was about £260. He had great fun and he was so lucky to get so many lovely gifts.

We did tell Oscar last year that that was the last ‘big’ party he would have and we would take a few friends out and then do something special like go to the theatre but somehow he’s managed to wangle a party and the Lion King!

On Sunday afternoon we then had all the family over for tea and cake. We had a lovely Minecraft cake from Wenzels which tasted amazing! Oscar loved getting everyone on the hover board!

Oscar has had an amazing birthday! The countdown is on until mine now next week, where I will turn 30!

Archie is 2 & Little Tikes Birthday Giveaway 🎂

Today Archie is 2! I can’t actually believe it, it only seems like a few months ago that he was born. Time flies!

Archie is a real character as so different to how Oscar was at his age. He is a little rascal. If you say ‘no’ to Archie if he does something naughty he laughs at you, takes absolutely no notice and then says “happy, happy, happy.”

He’s a climber and finds it hilarious to empty the entire contents of my kitchen cupboards and as soon as I put everything back, empty them all over again. He is non stop!

He calls Daddy “Nanny” even though he can say Daddy but thinks it’s funny!

He loves playing with Oscar and it’s nice to watch them sit and play properly together.

It is also nice to see that he is starting to make his own friends now at his toddler groups and recognises them straight away and plays with them as soon as he sees them.

Today we are going to my Nanny’s for a little birthday party with family and a few close friends. As Archie loves Teletubbies I have got a teletubbie cake, balloons and decorations.

To celebrate Archie’s 2nd Birthday Little Tikes have kindly given us a Lil Ocean Explorers 3in1 Adventure Course to give away to one of my readers! It is a great toy and can be used from 6 months until 3 years. So enter below and good luck!

The Clangers Home Planet & Figures, Oscar’s Birthday Competition

Oscar got so many amazing presents for his birthday but one of his favourites was his new Clangers Home Planet play set which he got from his great-auntie and he also got the extra play sets to go with it. I used to love Clangers when I was younger and love that Oscar now watches and loves it too!

The Home Planet play set comes with Granny Clanger and has lots of different features. You can press the button and see Soup Dragon pop up, lift up the dustbin lid and there’s a secret slide and the Telescope can be put in different locations. You can also swing Granny on the hammock. The other play sets available all go with the Home Planet and can be all used together.

Smyths Toys currently have all the Clangers Toys in their clearance sale at amazing prices. I picked up the Home Planet for £10 instead of £25 and the family pack of figures for only £2 instead of £9.99. So I have brought an extra set as I thought they would be a great toy to giveaway. So to enter to win The Clangers Home Planet play set and the family figure pack enter below. Good Luck!

Happy 6th Birthday Oscar!

Today Oscar is 6! Where has the time gone?! This time six years ago I was laying in a hospital bed after a three day labour and then a emergency c-section in shock with how much I had instantly fallen in love with our little boy and we couldn’t wait to get him home. It only seems like yesterday!

Oscar has had a jam packed birthday weekend. On Saturday he had his birthday party with 29 of his friends and we had the amazing Captain Calamity who is just then most amazing children’s entertainer and kept the kids focused and amazed for almost two hours! For the first hour he performed Magic, Balloon Twisting, Interactive games, Action Dances, Scorcher The Dragon Puppet Show and so much more. We then sang Oscar ‘Happy Birthday’ and the children went through the tea time tunnel to lunch.

After lunch Captain Calamity did another half an hour of the party with the most amazing Bubble Performance, set to music, culminating in a giant bubble which Oscar was inside and Daddy even got inside too. Captain Calamity is worth every penny and I couldn’t recommend him any higher, he is fantastic. Oscar loves Paw Patrol, so I had a cake made and then in the personalised party bags each child had a Paw Patrol book and action figure.

Yesterday we went to Prezzo for a pre birthday lunch as it is Oscar’s favourite restaurant. We then had family over for a few hours in the afternoon for another birthday cake and he got to open some presents from family. He has been so good and saved all his presents from his party to open later on today after school. He was very lucky and got some amazing presents from his Nannys and Grandads, Aunties and Uncles. Oscar got a new Maxi micro scooter, lots of playmobil, books, clothes, chocolate and toy story toys.

So Oscar is now 6 and we are so proud of the gorgeous, sweet little man he has become. He is a very caring big brother to Archie and is so incredibly patient with him. This year he has thrown himself in to lots of sporting activities after school and now does Tae-Kwon-Do, Trampolining, Football and Swimming. He also recently joined Beavers which he absolutely loves and can’t wait to go on a camp in the Summer. Since his last birthday he has seemed to grow up so much. Some of the things he comes out with makes me double take sometimes and pause to think where has my baby gone? Last month for instance he asked me for a red colouring pen, I gave him one and he said “Um no Mummy, that is Magenta, I asked for Red.” He was deadly serious and all I wanted to do was giggle but just changed the pen over for him instead. He is fascinated by the World and animals and asks 100’s of questions… thank God for Google so I can check the answers I am not sure on!

We are so proud of our little man! Happy Birthday Oscar! xxxxx

Oscar’s 5th Birthday Parties

Oscar had a great birthday, last weekend! On Saturday he had a bouncy castle party with his school friends and he loved it. We have used the same party venue for the last three years. In the hall there are three bouncy castles and a trampoline. You then have the use of the party room for food afterwards. Oscar wanted two themes this year, How To Train Your Dragon for his school party and Minions for his family party on the Sunday.

As always I get the lovely Kirsty from Katie’s Bakery to make Oscar’s cake. He chose a Toothless Dragon cake from How To Train Your Dragon and it looked brilliant and was only £35! Each year I send a photo of what I would like and she always makes me a cake that looks even better! I got How To Train Your Dragon plates, serviettes, room decorations and balloons which were really hard to find as hardly any shops in the UK sell them only in America. I also brought books from the Book People and wrapped them and gave one to each child. I got the Julia Donaldson packs which had a wide variety of different books for the younger children and the older boys and girls. Oscar had great fun with his friends and was so lucky to receive lots of wonderful gifts.

Oscar woke up on Sunday morning and was so excited to go downstairs to open his presents. We got him a Ultimate Buzz Lightyear Robot which took me ages to track down and it is great with over 100 different things on it. He had seen on at our friends on New Years Eve and had been wishing for one ever since. Archie got him the Toothless Dragon from build a bear and we also got him the dress up costume.

The whole family then came over at two o’clock for birthday cake and tea. Oscar was so excited when everyone arrived. He got so many great gifts. He is one lucky little boy. We then had a Minion birthday cake with Minion plates and napkins kindly sent to us from partybagsandsupplies.co.uk who sell a huge range of things to help you through the perfect party. They kindly sent us a box of Minion goodies with plates, cups, napkins, a table cloth, confetti, blowers, party bags and some filled party bags too. We were completely kitted out for the ultimate Minion party.

I used the minion confetti and napkins to decorate where the cake was and put the table cloth on the table for when we had cake. As you can imagine Oscar loved the blowers making as much noise as possible with them which he is still doing now. I don’t know how Archie sleeps through all of the noise. The party bags went down a treat with his friends and being prefilled I didn’t have to worry about sorting them all out, I just cut up and added the cake. Inside the bags were a packet of sweets, minion themed bubbles, minion stickers and a toy that you throw at the window and its suckers make it climb down. Since the party I have also kept the minion table cloth for painting and colouring so you can reuse it over and over again. The confetti is fun to to add and instantly transform a cake or present table. Again as the packet has so many in I have kept the rest to do gluing and sticking with. Oscar had a fantastic birthday and I can’t believe he is five!

Partybagsandsupplies.co.uk have loads of different fun themed party supplies for adults and children. There party bits and pieces are all so reasonably priced so throwing a character themed child’s party doesn’t break the bank. Compared to other websites they are the cheapest I have found. They also offer really quick delivery times. Here are some of the fun themes they do for children:

Review: Oscar’s Personalised Birthday Book From Penwizard.co.uk

On Sunday it was Oscar’s 5th birthday and he had a great birthday weekend! When we were given the chance to review one of Penwizard’s personalised books I knew Oscar would love one about him on his birthday. There were different birthday ones to choose from: In The Night Garden, Peppa Pig and Ben and Holly plus many more personalised books. I chose Ben and Holly as he enjoys watching the TV programme and we had seen the episode the book is based around before.

The book is £14.99 for a softback copy and £19.99 in hardback. Creating your book is so easy to do. You follow the simple instructions entering your child’s name, birthday and a personal message. I wrote a message from Archie, Oscar’s baby brother. You then pick gender, hair style and colour, skin tone, eye colour and you can add glasses if your child wears them. You can then see a preview of what the cover of your book will look like and then order.

Oscar was thrilled with his birthday book and we gave it to him on the night before his birthday and read to him in bed. He loved that it had the message from Archie and couldn’t believe he was in a Ben and Holly book.

The story is really sweet, about Holly making Oscar a birthday card without using magic. These books make fantastic gifts and are really are magical for children to receive and read. Putting Oscar in a book with some of his favourite characters on the TV was mind blowing for him and he will treasure his book to read over and over again!

Happy 5th Birthday Oscar!

Today Oscar is five and I really don’t know where the time has gone. Yesterday he had a bouncy castle party with his school friends which he loved and today we have the whole family coming over for tea and cake this afternoon. It only seems like yesterday that we had Oscar and now he is at school doing amazingly and is a big brother, and a great one at that.

He is so gentle and caring towards Archie, helping us when we bath or change him and singing to him when he starts crying. I think he is so great due to the age gap as we have had no jealously at all as he understands everything better being that bit older. This time last year Oscar being a big brother was just a dream, one that I never thought would happen but it just shows how much can change in only one year.

From 22nd February 2014 (Oscar’s 4th birthday) until now he has achieved so much and is makes us so proud at the caring, happy little boy he has become. Oscar this year you have:

Gone to Turkey on holiday – July 2014
Started in reception and has made lot’s of lovely friends – September 2014
Has started to learn to read
Learnt to ride a bike
Became a big Brother – December 2014

Plus so much more!

Happy Birthday Little Man we love you so much! Enjoy your special day xXxXx

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Today is Daddy’s birthday! We are going to Nanny and Grandad Maycock’s for lunch and Oscar and I have made him a delicious chocolate cake.

Oscar is most defiantly a Daddy’s boy and absolutely idolises him. He copies everything he does and sometimes when he talks it’s like listening to a mini Greg. Daddy always has the time to be at things like Oscar’s first day at school, sports days and concerts and likes to take days off during the holidays to go out with us and do fun things! Oscar loves him so much and he really is such a great Daddy!

Happy Birthday! The last one as a Daddy to one!

I Can’t Believe A Year Ago Today I Started My Blog Giveaway!

This time last year I sat with Greg debating whether to start my very own blog. I had never used Twitter or Facebook before so it all seemed very scary! I brought my domain name and fiddled around with Blogger and built my own site, in hindsight I wish I had used WordPress it seems much better! I am trying to change it over at the moment! I wrote my first post on Oscar’s Bugaboo pushchair and then blogged about things we did and products we had used. How thing’s have changed since then!

I never thought people would be that interested in what I had to say but each day when I check my stats it blows me away, I’m so pleased that people even bother to take a look. How it has already been a year I just don’t know, time flies. One thing I love the most about blogging is looking back at what we have done and I can’t wait to show Oscar when he is older. I still have a lot to learn, recently I have become addicted to Bloglovin which is such a great way to follow and read some amazing blogs, I enjoy sitting down with a cup of tea and reading through each day.

Blogging has become part of my daily life now and I blog a post each day, I love doing it and I love being on Twitter as you can see what a great Mummy/Daddy blogging community there is out there. So Happy 1st Birthday Mummy’s Zone and hopefully I will keep blogging for many more years to come. Please enter my competition to Win a Little Tikes Cozy Coupe Car. Thank you and Good Luck!
