DC Super Friends Interactive Power Punch Batman Review

Holy smokes its Batman Day! To hep us celebrate we were kindly sent the amazing  DC Super Friends Interactive Power Punch Batman from Golden Bear Toys. Both Oscar & Archie love Batman and it was nice for Archie to have his very own one as most of our Batman toys are Oscar’s.

Our DC Super Friends Interactive Power Punch Batman saved the day. The morning he arrived Archie trapped his little fingers in the front door and was very upset. Literally ten minutes later the delivery man arrived with his Batman which distracted Archie straight away. Batman really saved the day!

The DC Super Friends Interactive Power Punch Batman is a great toy and would make the perfect Christmas or birthday present. It is suitable for children from 10 months old so is the perfect toy for all ages. You can move Batman’s arms and legs around to get him into the perfect stance, ready for action. He makes cool punching noises when his fists hit anything which Archie got really excited about.

If you press his chest he says all of his signature Batman phrases and  his eyes light up as he speaks. The DC Super Friends Interactive Power Punch Batman has an RRP of £24.99 and Archie has been carrying him everywhere with him and lights his eyes up when he says in bed with him.

It’s a really great toy with lots of functions and its great for Archie as he is only two to have a Batman toy he can play with as well so he can join in and play with Oscar. He is also super soft to cuddle in bed and you can sponge clean him easily to keep him nice and clean. As Archie carries him around everywhere I have had to clean him up a few times and he looks as good as new.

Disclaimer: We were sent the DC Super Friends Interactive Power Punch Batman for the purpose of Batman Day and this review. However all opinions are honest and my own.

BigJigs Heritage Collection Mallard Train Set Review

I was really excited last month when I received the email from BigJigs Toys to let us know we had been chosen to be in their BigJigs Play Patrol. I had read the reviews of the other bloggers that were chosen last year and over the years with Oscar I myself have brought quite a few bits off of their website.

Archie is now at the age where he loves cars and trains and we have kept Oscar’s play table from when he was obsessed with his wooden train set and both of the boys have been playing with their new Heritage Collection Mallard Train Set since it arrived.

If you haven’t come across BigJigs Toys before they sell traditional wooden toys that most people love. There is something about wooden toys that I would always choose something like that over a brightly coloured plastic toy. Also when buying a gift for someone I think its always much nicer to receive a wooden toy, especially when the BigJigs Toys are designed here in the UK!

Our first toy we were sent to review is the Heritage Collection Mallard Train Set, like I mentioned above. There is something about opening the train set for the first time and the smell of wood fills the room, its lovely. Oscar and Archie were eager to get the set out and Oscar followed the drawing to put the track together. Within the train set there is a 42 play pieces which consist of track, your Mallard train and carriages, a viaduct, two junctions, a ticket office, four people, two houses, two cars and four trees. This Mallard Train Set is licensed and helps to support the National Railway Museum in York which is fantastic. I remember visiting there as a child with my parents and grandparents as my little brother was obsessed with trains! Additional accessories are available to expand this set and you can add lots of track and different trains. Also with the BigJigs track it is compatible with other brands of wooden train track which is good if like us you have collected up different bits over the years.

The Mallard Train Set is £31.99 and you are getting a lot of pieces for your money. It is so well made and robust too. The boys have played with it non stop since it arrived and having a wooden train set out is now a permanent fixture again in the playroom. It all fits perfectly back in the box again which you can then take out and out or when you visit family with you.

The boys love this set and it one hundred percent gets a big thumbs up from us.

Disclaimer: We were sent the train set for the purpose of this review, however all opinions are honest and my own.

Getting Our Garden Ready For Spring/Summer With Little Tikes

We have always been a fan of the outdoor toys from Little Tikes. Our vast collection started many years ago when Oscar got the Junior activity gym on his first Christmas from his Great-Auntie Liz. On his first birthday we brought him the Turtle Sandpit which is still going strong and has been used for hours and hours of play in the sand. He then got the pirate ship water table on his second birthday and the Evergreen Country Cottage playhouse which has 20% off at the moment on his third birthday from Great-Nanny.

Since then our garden looks like its a Little Tikes show garden with the Easy store giant slide which is great fun in the Summer with the hose on top and the boys fly down the slide and run back up the steps to do it all over again. I love that even though the slide is big it can easily be stored in the Winter months as it folds.

The Junior activity gym is great fun and would make the perfect first birthday or Christmas present. We keep it inside in the Winter and use it outside in the Summer. Both the boys have used it and loved it. Archie loves hiding underneath it and flying down the slide. The sides are great for climbing and out of all of the toys we have brought over the years the boys have had the most use out of it as like I said it can fit inside too.

Since Archie was born our collection has grown even more! We now have the Spinning seas water table that we were kindly sent to review last Summer and Archie absolutely loves it. It is the perfect height for a toddler and has lots of activities to keep your little one entertained. It is also a great size and isn’t huge so again in the Winter months is easy to store.

Obviously the Cozy Coupe which you will find in most gardens around the country has always been a permanent fixture in our garden. We had the original one when Oscar was little and then a couple of years ago we were sent the Ladybird edition. I just love the Cozy Coupe’s, my Mum even dug out some photos of my brother and I playing with ours 25 years ago! There are so many styles and designs now I can guarantee there will be one perfect for your little one!

This Summer we have a new edition to our ever growing collection… The Giant Slide Bouncer bouncy castle which looks totally awesome. Oscar is desperate to get it out of the box but we are waiting until its a bit warmer and the grass is dry. The look on his face when he saw just how big it is was unforgettable! It is every young kids dream, surely! I would have loved one of these when I was younger. Little Tikes sell a variety of inflatable bouncy castles, four to be exact and they start at only £229.99 and the Giant Slide Bouncer is £429.99. The boys will have hours of fun in the garden!

Now that over the next month or so the Weather will be getting warmer and the boys can play in the garden I jet wash off the garden toys and as they are plastic they always come up as good as new which I love! In our garden at the moment I have a patio for the boys toys but we are moving next month and our new garden patio looks amazing with plenty of space for their toys.

Oscar loves being outside and always hates the cold and wet weather which stops him from being in the garden, so now it is getting a bit warmer when he gets home from school he always wants to go straight outside.

One toy I feel compelled to tell you about is the Princess Horse and Carriage. I couldn’t believe it when I first saw it and was gutted that I didn’t have an excuse to buy it as my boys would turn there nose up at it. As a little girl this would have been the most magical toy ever! If you have a little girl please go and buy one with me in mind and Little Tikes can I have an adult version please?!

Nickelodeon Blaze and the Monster Machines Light & Launch Hyper Loop Review

Last week Oscar and Archie was sent the Nickelodeon Blaze and the Monster Machines Light & Launch Hyper Loop play set to review. Oscar has loved watching Blaze since it first aired on Nickelodeon. Over the last year or so we have collected quite a few of the die cast cars and now Archie loves watching it too and plays with cars all of the time!

When the Light & Launch Hyper Loop play set arrived they were both very excited to get it out of the box and play with it. I set it up and batteries come included so it was up and ready to play with in minutes. You place Blaze in the launch seat and crank down the yellow handle ready to go and when your ready press the button and the Hyper Loop spins Blaze 360 degrees whilst the light flashes and Blaze launches out of the loop, through the air and down the track off to save Axel City.

It is really easy to use and even with Archie being that bit younger once Oscar showed him what to do he was able to play with it too.

You can set up the play set in various ways; 9 to be exact and Blaze can complete different stunts. You can configure the stunt towers into a spinning wall, a teetering bridge or a stunt jump ramp! You can then move the towers to the different positions to use in another nine different combinations.

The Hyper Loop can also be attached to any other of the Light Rider vehicle accessories to build an amazing track. Oscar really loves the special translucent Blaze vehicle that comes with the set as this isn’t available separately.

The light up revving action is cool too, we end up turning the lights right down in the lounge, Archie gets very excited as it lights up and Blaze flies through the air.

The Blaze and the Monster Machines Light & Launch Hyper Loop play set has an RRP of £29.99 and is available online at Smyths Toys and Tesco Direct as well as other good toy retailers.

The boys really enjoy playing with this play set and its great as we can add to it with other light rider play sets.

Disclaimer: We were sent the Nickelodeon™ Blaze and the Monster Machines™ Light & Launch Hyper Loop play set to review, however all opinions are honest and my own. The boys really enjoy playing with it! A great toy.

The Lego Batman Movie Premiere

Last Saturday Oscar and I were lucky enough to be invited to The Lego Batman Movie Premiere at the Imax cinema in Leicester Square. I brought Oscar a Lego Batman T-shirt and a special torch figure and surprised him with where we were going. He was SO excited and the whole way in to London was smiling from ear to ear.

We parked in London and walked around to Leicester Square and got our special VIP ticket and Oscar met some of the Lego Batman characters; Batman himself and Batgirl. When we got inside we had an hour of Lego themed fun in the foyer and the excitement in the room was immense, not only from the children but us adults too.

Oscar and I had a photo together on the green screen, built lego models, snacked on lego themed biscuits and had the most amazing Batman and Batgirl caricatures drawn of us which are fantastic and have pride of place in Oscar’s bedroom.

We were then told to take our seats. As we walked into the cinema I have never seen a screen so big, it is absolutely huge! We met Emma (www.methemanandthebaby.co.uk) and Jim (www.onedadoneblog.com) in the foyer who were very excited as they are Lego fanatics and we all sat together. I also met Danielle (blogbybaby.com) and her lovely son who knows more about Lego than anyone I have ever met!

The Movie

The Lego Batman Movie is absolutely fantastic. As well as entertaining the kids it had jokes throughout for the adults and was funny from start to finish. The story of the film was great too. It is great fun and tells the story of how Batman doesn’t do relationships after his parents died when he was a child and he has been brought up by Alfred the butler. Joker wants to be his most hated villain but when Batman announces he isn’t bothered by him in their first battle Joker seems upset that ‘there is no him and Batman’ and conjures a plan on how to get Batman’s attention.

On top of this the new police commissioner is appointed, Barbara Gordon and she announces her new plans to work with Batman as he’s not really needed or actually that successful at defeating crime as Gotham City is still the most crime-ridden city in the World. A stunned Batman cannot believe his ears and inadvertently adopted a orphan called Dick when he wasn’t paying any attention to what he was talking to him about.

Dick then arrives at Wayne Manor who at first is a hinderance to Batman and tells Alfred to send him back but when he needs to go and steal the phantom gun from Superman’s Ice Palace to send the Joker to the Phantom Zone, where criminals are locked away in the sky outside of the Gotham City Law he realises the Dick can help him as he is much smaller and nimble.

Dick chooses his very own superhero outfit and suddenly Robin is born! Batman sends Joker to the Phantom Zone but it was Joker’s plan all along who then released all the the criminals back down to Gotham City to prove to Batman he is the greatest and most feared villain. Barbara Gordon the police commissioner becomes Batgirl, with Dick as Robin and even Alfred in full superhero attire they begin to fight back together, proving that Batman can have relationships and doesn’t have to work alone.

Batman tricks them all and tries to go back to fight alone but ends up in the Phantom Zone himself. He comes back to Gotham City on the promise to return all of the criminals back to the Phantom Zone. He works in a team, not alone and saves Gotham City! At the end of the film he admits to the Joker, that he hates him and they have a ‘moment’ between them which is funny!

The film is really good and has something in it for the whole family. There is humour throughout and both Oscar and I really enjoyed it. In fact he is going again so Daddy can watch it with him too.

After the movie we went to Planet Hollywood for a Lego themed lunch where the kids had great fun building their new minifigures and they were each given a huge goodie bag. We had a lovely time and Norton PR put on a fantastic lunch for us!

With the release of the new film there are some fantastic new Lego Batman sets available as well as other great merchandise.

The Lego Batman Movie is released in UK cinemas on 10 February.

We attended the Lego Batman Movie Premiere as a VIP guest and were given tickets and Oscar was given a goodie bag. All opinions of the film are honest and my own and it is fantastic. Don’t miss it!

Oscar’s Airfix Quick Build #QuickBuildTimeChallenge

Recently we were chosen to take part in Airfix’s #QuickBuildTimeChallenge. Oscar was super excited when our package arrived. Inside was a Airfix Quickbuild Hawk and a Lamborghini along with a stopwatch to see how long it took Oscar to build them. Previously when I think or Airfix models I thought of hows of building and glue and paint but not with the Quickbuild kits they are great for younger children that are old enough to want to build their own model independently.

The Quickbuild kits are for children aged 5 and over, Oscar is six so I was interested to see how he would get on building on his own and with the stop watch I have timed him which will give you a better idea of how easy they are and how long they really take…..

The pre-coloured pieces simply snap together, without glue or paints, to build an impressive model which can then be decorated with the included self-adhesive stickers. Plane models also come with their own display stand to show off your handiwork! The whole Quick Build range is manufactured in the UK and features some of the most iconic aircraft and vehicles ever constructed.

The instructions are easy to follow and Oscar has had great fun building them. He know wants to collect and build them all. There are 12 different models currently in the range and at only £12.99 they would make fantastic gifts. I have ordered a couple more to go in Oscar’s Christmas stocking.

Overall I am really impressed with the Airfix Quick Build range and it was nice to watch Oscar follow the instructions and build something all on his own. He was really proud of himself and they now have pride of place on his window sill in his bedroom.

#ClangersForKindness Competition

A few weeks ago the boys received a lovely bundle of Clangers goodies as part of their new Clangers For Kindness campaign. Both the boys love watching Clangers on CBeebies and it was last Christmas that Oscar’s Auntie brought him the play set and all the figures.

The Clangers For Kindness campaign will be encouraging kids, parents – in fact everyone – to spread kindness every day, just like the Clangers do on the little blue planet. From giving a hug, to helping a friend in need, there are many ways to spread kindness. Spreading kindness is something we have installed in Oscar. Spreading kindness at Christmas time is especially lovely and one example of Oscar spreading some kindness happened last week in London. Each year we go to Harrods to see Father Christmas and last Tuesday after school we drove into London for our annual visit. After we went into the grotto we walked around the corner to Pizza Express and on our way Oscar noticed a man in a sleeping bag sitting in a shop doorway. He asked us why he was there and we explained to him that not everybody is as lucky as him. He kept asking questions throughout dinner. We then had to walk back past the man to get to the car and Oscar had put a £1 out of his money box in his pocket in case he wanted to buy something. When we walked past the man Oscar let go of my hand and walked over to him and gave him his pound and said Merry Christmas! I was so proud of him and as we walked back to the car he had a huge smile on his face. I asked him if it made him feel good, his reply was “yes very good, hopefully the man will buy a new house with my pound and be safe and warm.” It made me want to cry, I was so proud of him.

In the Clangers bundle we were sent an activity book, a DVD, a model your own clangers modelling kit, magazine and a Clanger whistle. The boys loved watching the DVD over and over, especially Archie who normally I have to download episodes on my Sky box. The model your own Clangers kit is great and we had great fun making our very own Clanger, the tin has everything you need inside and would make a great stocking filler. Oscar took ownership of the activity book as he didn’t trust Archie with his stickers! 🙂 And the Clanger whistle is great fun, I couldn’t believe how spot on the noise it makes is to the Clanger sounds.

The Clangers For Kindness website is full of fun activities and also a free downloadable reward chart.

Take a look below at the lovely #ClangersForKindness video. Warning: You may shed a tear or two…..

The lovely people at Clangers have kindly given me a matching bundle to give away to one of my lovely readers! I would love to hear any stories you might have of your little ones and their acts of kindness! Then enter the competition below to win your very own Clangers bundle.

Don’t forget Clangers are also on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest.

SmartMax Playground XL & Power Vehicles Mix Review

With Christmas less than a month away and with your little ones writing their Christmas wish list for Father Christmas I know as a parent thinking of present ideas for grandparents and other family members often leaves me confused. I don’t want Oscar and Archie inundated with toys, I like them to get books or fun and educational toys too. SmartMax is the perfect present as they are award-winning magnetic construction system which allows children of all ages the chance to be creative, to learn and to explore the fascinating world of magnetism and most importantly, to have fun. So when we were asked to review the SmartMax Playground XL & Power Vehicles Mix I was really excited to see what the boys thought.

We were kindly sent The Playground XL play set and The Power Vehicles Mix play set. Firstly we got out The Playground XL which is a 46 piece set and straight away I loved that both Oscar and Archie could play with it together easily. Obviously having such a big age gap between the boys means that not many toys are great for them to play together with but all the pieces of the set were big enough for Archie who is almost two to play with as all the parts are bigger than 3cm and thereby don’t fit a child’s throat. The pieces are also great for building fine motor skills.

Archie was fascinated with the magnets sticking together, it made him laugh so much. Oscar sat and copied the playground on the front of the box and put it together easily without any help at all. They then sat for ages rolling the magnetic ball through with Archie catching it at the bottom. When Archie went to bed, Oscar sat and built different models with the pieces, allowing him to use his imagination and get creative. You can also purchase other SmartMax sets to your collection to build all sorts of fun creations!

The Playground XL set is absolutely fantastic and would make a fantastic gift this Christmas for all ages to enjoy!

The second set we were sent was the Power Vehicles Max. This set was perfect for Oscar as he loves cars! In terms of building them it was better for him as it challenged him a bit more then free play building. The set has 26 pieces in the box and once again all the pieces are big enough for Archie to use as well and are specifically designed for handling by children as young as one as they learn about the effects of magnetic attraction and repulsion. The coloured guide book is so easy to follow and Oscar had great fun sitting with Grandad and building the vehicles last weekend. Archie then enjoyed playing with the vehicles and pushing them around. Oscar quite liked that he had built something for Archie to play with, he was really proud which was so sweet.

The magnets are strong enough to carry up to 60 times their weight, so the building possibilities are endless. This set also helps improve visual thinking as you have to follow the instructions. You can build a bulldozer, a fire truck, a forklift, a tow truck, a pick-up truck or a van with this set. They are then fun toys to play with too.

The boys absolutely love their SmartMax sets and your children will love them this Christmas! It is great to have a toy that they can learn and have great fun with too. It is also a toy that will last as Archie has years of play left with them. Archie also walks around with two pieces and a magnetic ball and pretends its a microphone. I asked Oscar what he thought of the sets and he said “they are so much fun and fantastic!”

Early Learning Centre Seesaw Review

We were asked a few weeks ago to pick something fun for the boys to enjoy over the Summer from the Early Learning Centre website. After looking through the amazing range of outdoor toys I eventually picked a seesaw. The seesaw is bright and colourful and I knew Oscar would love it, so when it arrived I quickly put it together as a surprise for him for when he got home from school.

The seesaw didn’t put long to put together at all even with Archie trying to climb in and out of the box. Luckily it was a sunny day and as soon as Oscar got home from school he couldn’t wait to have a go and ran down the road to get his friend so he could go on it with him. They had great fun and bounced up and down for ages. Oscar loved that the seesaw also span around 360 degrees and laughed his head off as he span around and around.

The seesaw is also really great for your child’d physical development and will get used so much over the Summer as Oscar loves being in the garden whenever he can! The seesaw is suitable for children aged 3 and over and will last for years as Oscar’s friend was 9 and still had loads of fun playing on it.

Excuse Oscar’s choice of odd shoes! He was having to much fun to care!

At only £30 I think it is a real bargain and will Oscar will get hours of play out of it. It would also make a fantastic gift for a birthday or Christmas. The Early Learning website has a fantastic range of toys to make your children’s Summer even more fun and special!

Disclaimer: We were sent the seesaw for the purpose of this review, all opinions are honest and my own.
